Charcoal starter question

we all know the whole purpose of a charcoal starter....to fire up charcoal...

but there's this handle wire that is attached to the top of the starter itself...

What is it there for?!?!

metal wire/handle i'm referring to is part of the little heat shield.

I would have no clue how to use the handle with amber coals ashy ready to go....

you sure that's what it's for ?

with a glove on, you use it to guide where the coals are going.

I see now....

I honestly think that would make things worse. I just dump it in using the plastic coated handle, single handed.

That coat rack there looks like it would be pretty easy to pull off the unit.  Then it would look like a decent chimney starter.
