No problem. They're called "roof vent caps" if you ask somebody they should be able to find one. Just measure your stack dimensions or diameter and it should be a pretty standard size.

I ate at Puckett's in Nashville a few times about a month ago. Pretty good BBQ/Southern grub.

Thanks, hopefully I can grab one tomorrow. I have never eaten at Puckett's, think I have heard about it.

Here in the Pacific Northwest if we let rain and wind and snow stop us, we'd never get to do anything outdoors. The quick covers work great. If you have a Harbor Freight near you they have some of the better prices, especially when on sale. The covers also make the operation on a hot sunny day more bearable!!!
Hahahaha, dirtsailor, that looks a lot like my deck! I had to screw in 1/4" bolts thru the feet to keep the canopy from blowing away.

Another trick to using an offset in the cold, rain, and wind, is to wrap it with a welding blanket after you load the meat.

Thanks for the feedback Palladini.

Looks like you certainly came up with a good solution for yourself. Mine is on my deck, so I am a little limited on what options I can do.

Right now, I am crossing my arms and legs and chanting - no rain - no rain - no rain...  :)

I think at this time, my best bet would be to try and fabricate something to go over the stack out of heavy duty aluminum foil, and not worry with the rest. If it does rain some, I don't think it will be for very long, and I might just get lucky and get the whole smoke in - sure hope so.
I see by the picture you posted, you have it sitting beside your BBQ, under a gazebo type thing.  Here is an idea, measure the lower edges of this Gazebo and get tarps, attach them, temporary means, 2 should do, just move them as needed for direction of the rain.  Some of that twist tie stuff and some clothes pegs could be used to attach the tarp to the gazebo.  That is a work around you can work with when needed and not have to move the smoker or BBQ.

No, must be someone else's picture, mine is sitting on my deck out in the open all by it's lonesome.

Now of course the forecast has changed yet again, to 80% rain and thunderstorms, with possibly up to an inch of rain expected tomorrow...

Thanks anyway!

It normally doesn't rain in Bend. Plan a BBQ and it decided to pour buckets like it does on the other side of the state! We left canopies up and are glad we did, 100*+ the last three days. The shade has been really nice!

I may end up having to scrap tomorrow gang, it is now showing 100% rain starting tonight, all day tomorrow - 1-2 inches of rain, with winds up to 15mph...

Don't know that it would be worth trying to fight those elements. I will make the decision early this evening.

Thanks again to everyone for the suggestions, I will certainly try some of them when I do a smoke and it rains some.

Lol, still tempted, but also this will only be my second smoke ever, I am pretty new to this. The first smoke - rack of spare ribs - turned out great.

I did manage to find a vent cover for the stack today... I will have to take the sliding plate off the top of the smokestack so it can fit into it, but from what I have read here most folks smoke with the stack wide open anyway, no biggie.

dburne,

I live in the Seattle area. We know rain. Most of my smoking takes place just inside the doorway of my garage. If you're looking at 1/2"-1" of rain coming down, you might want to think again about smoking outside. I know it's a pain, but maybe you could get a couple guys to help you move it from your deck?

Yeah I have thought about that, not sure if we can handle it, really don't have anyone close by to help... Thanks for the suggestion!

Well, I guess I am going to be smoking after all.

Tried to call my wife at work, she left early - called her on her cell,  she left early because she found a store with a 10'x10' pop up canopy, has picked it up and on her way home -she wanted to surprise me!

We can roll the smoker close to the door that leads out to the deck, and put that canopy over it - that combined with the rain hood I got for the stack,  so hopefully all will be well! :)

Thanks again all for the excellent advise, so glad I found this forum! I will let you know how it went.
