Hi all, sure has been a while hope all is good with your tbs. My wife an I are hosting a wake may 5th for her favorite aunt who passed suddenly from the famous C at 57. She loved damn near anything an everything bbq. Especialy Reno's best of the west rib fest. So I promised her we would throw a bbq in memory of her. Now the 5th is fast approaching and time to get down to bussiness. Theres probably going to be 60 peeps with kids. Here's what I'm thinking for the menu. 18 racks of st louie, 1 ten pound shoulder, dutches famous baked beans (we just love those), potato and mac salad. Apps will be abts for sure, not sure what else sounds good any idea's? Thinking of stuffed mushrooms though not sure. There will be chips an dip of course with 2 full size kegs with red solo cups........lol

You could add some moinks to the app list and here is a real easy slaw recipe I stole from Bobby Flay that is not the usual sweet mushy slaw

Good luck with the event

Creamy Cole Slaw

8 servings

Ingredients
  • Two bags of cole slaw pre chopped
  • 3/4 cup best-quality mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons grated Spanish onion
  • 2 tablespoons sugar, or to taste
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon dry mustard
  • 2 teaspoons celery salt
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper
Directions

Combine the two bags in a large bowl. Whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream, onion, sugar, vinegar, mustard, celery salt, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl, and then add to the cabbage mixture. Mix well to combine and taste for seasoning; add more salt, pepper, or sugar if desired.

Hey guys thanks for the ideas. Scarbelly  I didn't even think about coleslaw must have had a brain cramp...lol Moink balls don't sound bad any favorites or is it like abts dream it an build it.

jrod62 I must say shots were a given at this event but pork wasn't going to be an ingredient...........lol. Clue me in is it moink w/ pork? dunno.

So sorry for your loss. I love your BBQ wake idea. Those pork shots sound good, give them a try.

Best wishes for great weather, cold beer, smoky Q, and shared memories.

BlackLab, evening....  Sorry to hear about your loss.....

Something to think about..... the kids.... sometimes they just want hot-dogs..... or burgers..... might throw on a few......  You could wrap a few dogs in bacon....  I saw that on the travel channel the other day....

hey there. Sorry to hear about your loss.

If she liked the Best in the West Rib Cookoff I know Big onion rings are a staple at that event and it might be nice to have them in her memory.

Besides that I think you have a good list there.

Hey guys thanks for the well wishes an ideas. Here's the finalized menu I think I mean I hope.

18 st louie racks with a two day rub

1 pork shoulder with a two day rub

2 pans of Dutches beans

potatoe/mac/oriental/pesto/cucummber salads

abts

bacon wraped sausage

5 dozen fresh oysters

chips & dips along with home made mango jalapenno salsa.

Two full size kegs of cold coors lite with red solo cups to wash it all down with.

The weather is still on the dicey side so will have covers just in case. Nobody is going to leave hungry if they do it's there own fault lol.
