Hi Guys,

Found this forum while researching smoker builds. Came on to share my project, ask for some advice and learn more about smoking food.
Situated in Stockholm, Sweden.
I have a genuine love for craft beer, cigars and climbing/mountaineering.

Welcome to the site Matt, happy to have ya join the fun. My grandparents on my dads side immigrated here from Norway. The wife and I are trying to plan a trip over to Scandinavia in the next couple of years.

Cold or hot smoker?
I've eaten lots of smoked fish in Scandinavia. It seems like a staple there.

Hot smoker, I'll try to replicate american style BBQ/Smoking. But just maybe my design will allow me to use it as a cold smoker aswell if i'm lucky.

But you are right, smoked fish is popular.
My grandfather had a smoker for that. It had a a 4m / 13ft long smoke channel between the fireplace and smoking box!

How big and what fuel? You might consider just buying one as there are so many out there now it's hard to save any real money.
For a really a fast start pellet grills are gaining traction these days. They won't really run cold enough for cold smoking but you can drop a smoke generator in the fire chamber and cold smoke with one that way and they use the same pellets for fuel.

Wood/coal.
I see you have already found my build-post :)

I’m sure buying one would be both cheaper and easier. Let’s just say the goal of making the journey is the journey itself and not the destination.

Hm, yes charcoal and wood.
Didn’t realize the difference in meaning. Us Swedes use the same word for both.
