Brats and Buns

I’ve had this question for years, but never got a good answer. Why do the big companies that make brats (Johnsonville, looking at you) package them with five brats, when most companies that make buns package six buns?

I actually called the toll free number on Johnsonville’s brat package to ask that question. The girl that I spoke to didn’t have the answer. lol

Bingo.... they go off of weight vs. Individual count. If they added a 6th link they would push the price point up higher than most consumers want to pay.

That makes sense. I was wondering if the brat makers were in cahoots with the bun makers. To get an equal amount of brats to buns, you’d have to buy 6 packages of brats, and 5 packages of buns. In my opinion, not the best way to upsell. But they didn’t ask me.

This is the age-old mismatch of hot dog packages and bun packages. A decades-old dilemma for the consumer. I wondered about that back in the 1950's.
