Bought my first smoker in Melbourne Australia!

  1. After watching so many American BBQ programs i thought it was about time I bought one for myself. I have just purchased a Hark Tri fire off set smoker bbq which should be with me by the weekend.

    It would be great if someone could point me in the direction of the best cookbook I should buy and also what wood to start off with. I'm looking at starting off cooking on Saturday and want my first time to taste amazing for my hubby and kids!

    The search bar at the top can be your best friend when you are trying to find answers to your questions but don’t hesitate to start threads and ask also!

    We have an ”Articles” section that is full of great information about smoking to include a lot of recipes and instructionals. Check it out there is a lot to learn in there!

    We love to see pictures of what you are cooking (or what we call q-views here at SMF).  To "upload the q-views" just follow the directions here and it will be easier. If you are using a cell phone, an IPad or a kindle, go to the main SMF page and click the Mobile button. Will make the uploads a bit faster too.

    If you didn't read the "Terms of Service" notes.....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums and some guidelines of how to interact within the forums. Off site links are not allowed here at SMF per TulsaJeff. Not that you have done anything wrong....just a little bit of FYI for new members!

    If you need any help roaming around the forums....just holler!  Happy to help out!

  4. Glad you joined the group. The search bar at the top of any page is your best friend.
    About anything you wanna know about smoking/grilling/curing/brining/cutting or slicing
    and the list goes on has probably been posted. Remember to post a QVIEW of your smokes.
    We are all smoke junkies here and we have to get our fix. If you have questions Post it
    and you will probably get 10 replies with 11 different answers. That is because their
    are so many different ways to make great Q We all have our own taste.

    I know you don't have the smoker yet but I pulled a photo off the web to help everyone give you advise. If you can tell us what you plan to cook your likely to get much better information here than in a book as there are so many kinds of smokers most books are way to general. The smoker looks like a good one by the way.

Chicken is pretty east to start with.

  8. Thanks everyone for making me feel so welcome! my smoker arrived yesterday ready to be assembled and i am excited to get started. Now this may seem like a silly question to some of you but I've never done this before

    I am looking to make pulled pork and would like to know what cuts of meat I am best buying. I also don't know what would be the best wood.

    I have followed recommendations and bought 2 books which should be here soon but I am eager to get started as soon as possible.

    would also love to know if anyone has a similar smoker to the one i have purchased, thanks again to the person who posted the picture in this thread
