Hello everyone,

I have been lurking around reading the different posts trying to decide on which smoker to purchase. I have been trying my hand at smoking meats using my gas grills and with a small upright bbq I have been trying to modify. I am coming to the conclusion that I need to breakdown and buy a purpose built smoker if I want to do some "real smokin". I did a little internet surfing looking for info and found this site, I appreciate all the great advise and guidance I am finding.

Thanks

Carlos

Carlos, there are a variety of smokers on the market. First deside how much meat you will be smoking at one time and don't forget the holidays.

The master built smokers are good and they are electric. So you have to decide shop you want to cook with electricity, gas, or charcoal. Small portions for 10 to15 people or let's say 4 to 6 butts the 40 master built are an excellent smoker. You can also cook for just the family.

Another big question is how much do you watt too spend? The 40in. Mayer built will run you about$300..

Good luck

Agreed.... I'm running a MES 30 inch, and just started smoking. I'm really only cooking for the family though. Could go a little bigger but it is definitely big enough for my family of 5. Good luck on making a decision, and welcome from the 209.

Welcome Carlos, to the site, good advice about looking and taking your time to decide what best fits your needs.Lots of good smokers out there in all different price ranges, Just remember it's not the smoker that turns out the great BBQ it's the person doing the smoking. I started out with a ECB (El-Cheap-O-Brinkman)  Lost count of how many great Briskets, ribs, turkeys, pork shoulders and other stuff I turned out.
