Cross cut beef shanks, 2 hour smoke, 3 hour braise, shredded into BBQ beef.
I'm fingerpicking an old Reverend Gary Davis tune, which he claimed to have learned from a traveling show in North Carolina circa 1905.

Beef shanks used to be inexpensive. I don't know what the current market brings.
But shank is an excellent choice for slow cooking and can be tender if cooked right.
