I was at Costco restocking after a long spell of not cooking much and figured I peek at the briskets (granted these are prime but still). This is getting out of control. Feels like beef has doubled in the last 5 years.

I spot checked a few other actual package stickers on other beef. Everything was so expensive...looked good, but might need a second mortgage to eat the beef.

We've been at that price for over a yr. I haven't done a brisket in quite a few years.I
Chuck roast "once in a while" you can get on sale for $6.49, but seldom.

Same price here. I think Choice was $5.49, last time I looked. Filled up on gas the other day; $4.99 at the cheapest Costco near me.

I pretty much live on ground chicken and pork tenderloin for diet reasons. Prices not bad. I splurged on some ground round for a cheat day this weekend and it was almost $9 a lbs

We paid 6.99 for the last brisket we got, it was a point cut so those are higher but yes beef in general is crazy $$

I looked at some Tri Tip at Publix last weekend. $19 lb 😲. Would up at with 2 chucks from Food Lion @ $6.99 lb on sale.
Will be back to chicken or pork this weekend .

That's a decent price these days.
An advert for a new location of a BBQ joint in southaustin showed their menu board and brisket was $30 per lb.

Was at Krogers yesterday. They had packaged brisket, seasoned with salt and pepper, for 10.99 lb. The two I looked at were 2 & 3 lbs each. No thanks.

I used to get things like TT, Flank and Skirt for something different and fun plus the price was better but then again I used to be able to get good ribeye's on sale for $5-6 per pound. Now there is almost no use in getting the "odd" cuts in terms of price vs NY Strip or Ribeye.
I also don't by beef very often last few times is from gift cert or I just need something specific, my next haul will be because I won $200 of gift certificates for a good Meat Market in Fargo.

So, what ends up happening to all the beef that is too expensive for people to purchase? :emoji_thinking:

I have been wondering the same thing. At some point some of these places that don't sell eventually have to cycle their goods even sooner if it is in a viewing case or packaged without cryovac
