At the risk of creating a little controversy I'm going to recommend that you get a ...WEBER

Without question, hands down, there is no other propane grill that compares to a WEBER! Step up and pay the extra, you won't regret it.

I agree---Weber!

However I'm not totally happy with my new Weber "Q".

It works awesome, looks nice, and everything, but I don't care for the grills.

Too much solid metal grill, and not enough space between.

Makes it more like a griddle than a grill.

Are they stainless or cast iron?

Cast Iron.

Here's a pic of half of the grill (right side). Mine has both sides like the right side here.

This pic is showing the flat griddle option on the left.

I will go against the popular opinion and say to get the Charbroil Infrared. I bought one at Home Depot in feb. It has cast iron grates. I have had it over 700 degrees with it for searing. Works great. You can even just throw wood chips in to the deflector plate and it will smoke too. Very well made. That being said the Webers are great. But for 2x's more money I dont know if I could recommend it over the charbroil

I guess I'll get caught in the middle here.  I have never been a gasser, at least not for long and not for a long time.  I remember those great old Char Broils from the old days when they were a top unit I couldn't afford.  Times have changed and they are not the quality they used to be.

Weber makes truly great and durable products, but I cannot tell you about the gassers.

Good luck and good smoking!

Weber!

If money is not an issue the Weber Summit models are da bomb. I keep a picture of one on my fridge so that my wife see's it constantly. She knows it will be mine some day.

I'm with you on that one 100%!  I have a Charbroil RED and LOVE it!  You can easily smoke in it as well (that is what got me started).

Don't get her mad, or she'll just be drawing a mustache on it.
