Hi yall, I'm currently working on a custom build for a smoke trailer so I can do big events. Currently I'm trying to figure out how to keep a pilot light on while a temp controller keeps it rolling during early mornings or if I have to leave. The plan is to have a jet burner as the main heat source while a SLC controller operates a solenoid to adjust when to add heat. What would be a good way to keep the pilot? Or is there a way to hook up an electric ignitor in series with it?

I would think a thermocouple might be what you are looking for. Most if not all propane water heaters have them.

That's a good idea.

Using the entire propane system from a water heater would also provide positive gas shut-off in the event of the pilot flame going out for some reason.

Probably available at the Big Box stores.

Bingo and page 3 of this thread has a few perfect pictures and is pretty much fail safe.

Playing with gas isn't safe unless done right and more so when you talk about leaving it going while away from it
