Atlantic Beach NC!

Well long story short I got stationed to Baltimore in 2023. The area wasn’t great for my family (3 kids 14, 7 and 3 at the time). We had an opportunity to leave early which ended up being about 9 months after we got there the only downside was I had to deploy to Bahrain for a year. After lots of conversations with my wife we decided it would be best. Anyway we did it I miss my grills and smokers but after being here for almost 7 months I finally got my orders to my next station, Atlantic Beach NC. It was our #1 spot we wanted to go to and we couldn’t be happier. I still have about 4 months to go but what a relief it is to know it all paid off. Wife is happy and kids are too if anyone has any info on the area I’d love to hear it. Probably looking to live about 30-45 minutes outside of Atlantic Beach because of housing prices in that area but we’re really excited

Sweet. Atlantic beach is a great area especially if you like to fish. You have Oriental, Morehead city, Beaufort, Harker's island, Emerald island. Indian beach, the cape look out national shore, the Pamlico and bogue sounds. All great places with grand views. IMO you hit a jackpot. I wanted to buy a beach house there but life put me farther south near Holden beach and oak island. Good luck to you and your family and thank you for your service.

Great news and thank you for serving. A much better station to be than Baltimore for sure. I grew up around DC and worked the DC Baltimore area for over a decade before escaping that rat race. Baltimore is the kind of place a man will walk by your service truck and say "I know you aint leavin' that truck sittin' here wit all that stuff just sittin' in the back like that". They will just flat-out tell you you will likely be robbed.

Eastern NC has it's merits. Grew up visiting my grandmother in Leland as a kid and my parents had a house on Oak Island a couple blocks off the beach for about a decade. That actually made me like the beach for a while, but then the word was out and the people came...I can stand the beach...until the people come!

Oak is something special though.

You also get to see something very unusual on Oak Island. The sun sets OVER the ocean. Took my ex brother in law once and it really tripped him out. I was used to it and wondered why he kept looking at the sky like he's gone insane.

I can see the sunset over the ocean at Holden too. I've seen hundreds of them posted on the Holden beach Facebook page. I don't bother to look at them on FB anymore but they are beautiful to see them when your there.

Not many places on the east coast to see that, gulf side of Florida is one and I've seen it there.

Congrats, it's gonna be the longest 4 months of your life so far. Atlantic beach is a great spot and being inland a little bit is a good idea. Like others have said there is great fishing, Morehead is right there and plenty for the family to get into. There are jet ski rentals, fort macon isn't far.

I grew up an orioles fan and we use to go on vacation to orioles games so it was cool to take the kids to some too. But like you said even the nice areas aren’t far from not so nice areas. The Beach is for my wife she and the kids love it. A day at the beach turns into me cleaning up and getting sand out of vehicles and all that for the next hour after we get home
