Quick question. Can you actively see the water circulating. I got an Anova from my daughter and tried it on a Striploin Roast Christmas day. I placed the unit in a large stock pot, added hot tap water, set it to 125° and let it do it's thing. Once at temp I added the 7 pound roast. 6 hours later, the meat IT was 116 in the thick end and 120 in the thinner end. Looking in the pot, it did not seem like the water was moving. I removed the meat and looked at the water again. You could not see any surface movement at all. Looking at the bottom of the pot, a few Herbs that fell in, were lazily moving around but not what I would call circulating. Did I me miss something or is this normal?...JJ

I just fired up my Anova to do Wagyu filets for a 6pm dinner. I see definite water circular movement. I am set at 128F in a water that is at 84F right now.

You should see the water moving , and hear the unit running . Not as aparent in large container , but would think you would notice it without question in a stock pot .

Mine definitely moves water around. Specs show they should move 2GPM. can you tell if the little impeller is turning? It should be turning whether the element is calling for heat or not.

Barry.

I should correct my post in that I have an Avalon Bay not Anova. I’m sure both should move water though.

JJ,

You should definitely be able to see water circulating. I use mine in a clear cambro container.

I don’t have the Anova model but if there’s a slit in the metal housing at the bottom of the unit, you should be able to see a small propeller that circulates the water. There is usually a stream of small bubbles coming out of that slot.

You should be able to hear the water circulating. Mine sounds like a fish tank on HI volume, the wife even thinks it’s too loud so I usually SV in the basement.

Mine is a gourmia, I’m not sure if other models are quiter.

The couple I've seen, I could see the water moving & hear the circulator.

My Sous Vide Supreme makes no noise & the water doesn't move around, but the heat comes from the bottom & the sides, and it has no circulator.

Thanks all. The meat cooked fine, whisps of steam rising from the pot, but I could not hear it running and the water looked pretty still...JJ

Now that I think about it ,,, I have the 800 watt and the 900 watt Anova . I just got the 900 watt and when using it the other day , I thought it had shut off . I hit the on / off button and it stopped . So it was still running , but was quiet .

I have a 1200 watt Gourmia & you can hear & see the water circulating around the cambro.
I would call Anova, I think something is wrong with the unit.

i think in a large stock pot, you may have trouble seeing the water move, but you should definitely hear it running. even though your meat cooked fine, you should check it to ensure the fan is actually moving the water.

Put an egg in the pot of water. The Anova should cause the egg to roll around in the bottom of the pot. It might even slam into the cooker wand hard enough to crack, but I'm not tellin' how I know that.

Check the propeller to make sure it didn't loosen .....

I have the Anova nano and can definitely see/hear the water circulating.

The bottom should come off the unit with a twist/ pull motion. Remove it and you can check the impeller. Maybe something is blocking it?

Hope you get it sorted out. I got mine for my birthday a week before Christmas and have been having a blast with it. Doing a strip roast this weekend.
