I'm a pilot who has been grilling for years for family, friends, and large gatherings (we host an Oktoberfest every year for 150+).  I've been a propane guy with a large, stainless 4-burner and an "event grill" with no cover but 8 burners, two tanks and no waiting!

After being hounded by a fellow aviator-cook, I recently bought a Traeger Texas pellet smoker/grill and it's opened up a whole new world of cooking to me.  I'm looking forward to getting the tips and tricks from this Forum to apply to my new piece of equipment!

Welcome, you will find a vast amount of useful information around here, it truly is a great place to find all the answers to your questions.  How are you liking the Traeger?  Not sure what kind of pellets you use but you should look into Lumberjack pellets.... they are a wonderful pellet and very reasonably priced, also they have many varieties that are 100% flavor wood no fillers.  You should be able to find them somewhere locally in the cities.  I know last time I was up that way there was someone in Isanti that sold them for $15 for 40# bags that is a great deal, I believe he usually has a listing on Craigslist

Thanks for the tip on the pellets.

I'm really enjoying the Traeger. The digital thermostat is outstanding. So far I've done chicken legs with a 24-hr marinade, meatloaf and a brisket.  All of them were "best in class" compared to my previous efforts on a gas grill (with wood chip packets).  I'm looking forward to beer tower chickens with rub this weekend and maybe some stuffed pork chops or a cedar plank salmon. I think I may miss the sear on steaks or burgers, but I can always finish them on the gas grill.  I'm really looking forward to our next Oktoberfest and smoking the brats and schwanks (port cutlets) before finishing them on the event grill!
