Amazon Stuffer

Just got e-mail from Amazon. This is the same stuffer that I've used for years. Good product, and a great price. Some people have reported problems with the plastic gears, but mine still work great, and replacements are available through the sausage maker. Still time for that Christmas present to yourself.

And that book by Rytek Kutas is an AWESOME thing to get with it. I LOVE that book!

Ya lucky dawg! Indeed, his writings are considered the Bible of curing/sausage making.

A shame he passed before the definitive Third, but the Good Lord works in mysterious ways... either that, or He had a hankerin' for some good sausage.

That one looks like the one they sell at Northern Tool and Equipment. Northern has it for 79 bucks. Has the same nylon gears. That looks like the only draw back. Have read lots of reviews on it and some good and some bad and the gears are the main topic.
I have been thing of getting one but if I have to replace the gears then I am thinking I would be better to go with the Lem one that has metal gears and I have found that one for 99 bucks on amazon.

I get the impression that some of these have metal gears and if one could find a source that would work, it could put an end to the problem.

In addition, it seems as if some of the gears are a nondecript plastic that may or may not last, while others are nylon or some other durable, high quality plastic that can stand the gaff. One should investigate that.

Santa ordered me the LEM one with metal gears. used it once now and it worked well. Seems to be very well made, and easy to clean.

Texas-Hunter, the reviews I read some did say that about bottoming out and others said they had problems with them coming shipped broken. I guess I will have to see one up close and see if they look like the gears can be replaced with metal ones and how much metal ones cost. I have seen the Lem up close and I know they are a good brand. I use their jerky cannon and I have ordered straight from them for assessories. So we will have to see. I am also thinking of getting a new smoker too. So not sure which will come first.

At that price its cheaper and easier to order the Lem stuffer. That was only like 99 bucks.

is the lem a verticle stuffer?

I have been using that Northern Tool stuffer for years..No problems. Really if you keep the o-ring lubricated and STOP TURNING THE HANDLE WHEN YOU GET TO THE BOTTOM! There is no stress to speak of while your stuffing the sausage. I marked my shaft with masking tape on a dry run so I could tell when I am getting close to the bottom...and I reload...Just a slow steady speed is as fast as I can handle the sausage casings..lol Better to have a small patty left over than to break the stuffer trying to empty it! Once it hits bottom ..something has to break if you turn it some more! Any resistance while your stuffing near the bottom means YOUR THERE! STOP
Any time some one helps me I threaten them...lol when the get close to the bottom...Otherwise a new helper thinks they turn it until they cannot turn anymore...WRONG! Just be careful..We don't even try to bottom out until the last load,,,Then we quit at first resistance..and have had no problems. No muscle involved!
