I love to talk about Smoking and all it intails. Trish loves my "Q",but shys away from any discussion of it and it infuriates me, Our conversations start with,"is this going to be BBQ inspired?"

Once in a while I find someone that has a few minutes to talk, like in a grocery line waiting for 10 others to get done and the other 33 registers are full too.......they are trapped and I talk my head off, especially if they comment on the gigantic piece of meat or meats I am purchasing.Game-on! I'm gonna.... and they retort with "how" , a bad choice of questions around me

.

I get so wound - up in wanting to talk that I have even followed one fellow to his car(was 2 down from me) and talked for an hour to him

. Then I wondered why he left so fast when he drove away

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this trouble,or am I in some sort of Twilight Zone where people don't discuss BBQ,like it's some kind of maladay that should be avoided

.

Is it the Women(except for Jeanne) and the unknowing that don't discuss "Q", Or is there a conspiracy I haven't realized yet?

Just wondering................

Nope, sir, you are just one of the guys about wanting to talk about it. My beautiful wife understands my barbecue passion (she calls it my insanity) and accepts it with a smile, and will not shy away from poking holes in some of my wilder (and sometimes potentially dangerous) recipes.

As far as your area's people not wanting to discuss......you may be located within a permanent geographical-temporal-shift, because my checkout ladies love to hear about my 'cue and cooking and have actually held up the line to write down a recipe or two.

LOL... I have been known to talk a persons head off about BBQ myself on more than a few occasions. My wife's main input is "Is it ready yet?", she doesn't care if we talk about BBQ as long as she knows she is getting some of it!

If they don't want to talk about BBQ (their loss, not yours), then you might need to change the topic to beer, cars, or football. If none of that peaks their interest, kindly inform them that they are banned from savoring any BBQ until they repent...

My wife Judy & I talk about BBQ all the time, we also discuss other recipes and generally prepare a lot of meals together. Although most of the smoking is something I do & she watches & gives constructive criticism

. She & a couple of our friends taste test all the Q I make, and they are brutally honest. It is somewhat humbling at times, but the end result is better Q each time.

Lol, I am my wife's 3rd husband. She swears I am a keeper (the other day I bought a cookbook, Foods of the Southland).

She says she never had a husband that would cook or buy a cookbook (even for her).

But to get her to talk Q is a different story. She don't wanna talk it, she just wants to eat it.

My brother and his two kids live with us also. He is a chef by trade. He won't talk about it with me either.

I keep 7 people (including me) happy with my new found cooking passion, and nobody to talk to about it.

So I just keep reading here, and trying some of this and some of that. I am happy and I can always talk to myself about it.

My Wife of 23 years, will listen to me ramble on about Q with a blank look on her face then say," Uh Huh" and go back to watching Re-Runs of Law and Order...If I really want to FREAK HER OUT...I can start talking about the Breakdown of Beef Primals into Sub-Primals and their respective Consumer Ready Cuts...She will Immediately Stick her Fingers in her Ears and starts repeating loudly, "MEAT COMES ON PRETTY PINK FOAM TRAYS FROM THE GROCERY STORE!"...Over and Over, until I STOP TALKING!

Thank's Jimmy, that made me laugh! I can just picture that conversation.... lol.

You guys are great.

My wife zones out when I talk "Q" or the other word that begins with "S" and ends with "ex"

I do however share your angst.

What I can't stand is every guy I talk to says how about those Eagles, I'll be like yeah they're making a comeback they have been on the endangered species list for years, My son and I actually saw one flying over the river a few days ago.

They look at me like I got two heads.

I could have 200 pounds of butts 100 pounds of ribs 10 briskets a half a cord of wood a sacks of paprika and brown sugar and some one would say hey, how about those Eagles.

Why is it everyone assumes all men love sports, I personally cant stand sports except for Hunting, Fishing, Archery... you get the picture.

I know its usually an icebreaker, but I never walk up to a stranger and say, "hey how about Myron Mixon"

One day when someone says how about those Sixers or Phillies I'm gonna turn around and say yeah how about the "National Barbecue Ratings"

Oldschool, my friend, you are the type of gentleman I want to bump into and strike up a conversation with.
