So it's been just about three weeks since I got whacked by those wasps in my right ankle. The recovery time especially if you're allergic like me can take a while and I spent a lot of time just lounging outside under the shade tree drinking beer.

Just found the source yesterday...take a look at this:

Talk about being so close to a possible tragedy, take a look at where I've been lounging:

So at about 3am this morning when it was coolest I suited up in a full hooded Tyvek suit,gloves and my full face respirator as it's the only thing I had that would cover my whole face and proceeded to hit the entrance with some liquid death that I got from an exterminator buddy. Doesn't take much you just got to
get a little in the nest and they will all eventually die.

The thing that I'm still trying to wrap my head around is that the wife and I have been sitting next to that thing for almost three weeks after I was stung and that I only noticed it yesterday.

Bottle rockets or Roman candles would have been a fun way to deal with that?

I thought about that but it's pretty much right about the same spot where I got whacked, it certainly could've been a lot smaller then and I just didn't see it.

Good thing you found that before you were working in the yard and hit it .
My first house had a wall in the kitchen that was about 2 ' of exterior wall . Tearing out the drywall for a re-do , I heard buzzing just as I was taking that peice off . Damn honey bee nest the full width of the stud bay and about 2 ' tall . Slapped the sheet back on to keep most of them in there , but I looked like OJ running through the airport getting out of there .

i see those hornets nests go for 100$+ shellacked up! i collect them after first hard frost.

Had a full nest of yellow jackets from the sill plate to the bottom of my master window and from stud to stud. Almost caused a fire as there was a receptacle in that bay.

My relationship with bees over the years has not been a good one to say the least.

They are beautiful when no longer a threat. My wife and I watched this one for months until we deemed it safe enough to become decor. Hallway bathroom. Love it.

It is a crap shoot to figure out when they feel threatened and go into the pheromone driven frenzy.

When I worked for a beekeeper (years ago) we did a free service in the community by killing wasp nests. We used a cyno gun. It is a powder that releases cyanide gas when disturbed. 100% effective and the cyanide is gone in a short time
