Doing up some pork butts on the WSM for an engagement party type gig next weekend and approximately 40 people are expected. There is a wide assortment of other dishes being brought so it's not the only main dish or anything but I'm seeking opinions on what the correct quantity of pork would be just assuming everybody ate a sandwich?

Any input appreciated. Thanks.

14lbs finished product will yield 42, 1/3lb sandwiches. Figuring a 40% loss for shrinkage and bone you would need approx. 24lbs of raw meat.

Greg is on spot with this info, I figure shrinkage at 40% for bone-in and 30% for boneless.
Plus account for a few hungry guys (seconds) and dropped plates, plus the taste testing as you pull.

Yup I agree and if your PP is the hit of the party you may run out my family wouldn't know how to stop at 1/3 lb sammies they would be more like 1/2 lb and some seconds. Good luck.
