Just though I'd tell all of you about a smoker related accident that happened to me Saturday afternoon as I was preparing my smoker and grill to make some Kabob's...
I had lit the coals on both the grill and my Brinkmann Smoker/Grill, but made the mistake of sitting the grill grating back on the Brinkmann before I had laid the foiled onions on the coals. Having done this before I was prepared (or so I thought). I propped the grate up with a stick (instead of taking it out) and reached in and dropped the onion onto the coals. Doing so caused the stick to shift a bit, making the grill grating fall onto the back of my forearm. When the hot grates hit me I reacted by yanking my arm out, but when I did the serious accident happened...
When I yanked my hand out I caught my thumb on a grill bracket and tore a huge jagged gash into my hand. I had to run to my back door and yell for help while holding a nice 3 1/4 inch gash shut with my hand. Fast forward 4 hours later and I am finally getting my stitches, all 9 of them...
The moral of the story is take your time, remove all of the equipment instead of trying to skip a step, and don't get hurt...
Before...
After...
Luck for me my inlaws were there so we had someone to leave my kids with while I was rushed to the emergency room...
Later...
Brekar...
