A Nice Get Together

We had a nice but different get together tonight. It lasted until about 11:30pm.

It was different because it was celebrating the 1 year loss of my sister in law.

Filipinos just do things differently. We had about 20 people over and it was a fun time.

There was lots of food but my contribution was lamb and beef gyros.

I didn't take many pics but this is the gyro half way to starting to slice.

This is most of the grub minus the desserts. My stuff is on the top center. Most everyone brought something to the table.

I got lots of love for what made and the way we do it here everyone has a take home box of their favorites. We have a little bit of everything to munch on for the next few days. This is what makes me so happy that I married a Filipino woman.

Looks like a great spread. I noticed the Lumpias in the bottom left hand corner. My ex-wife's aunt was Filipino, and I really miss her lumpias. So much better than the ones I tried to make.

These ones were way better than average. I usually can take or leave them but I really liked these ones.

EDIT: The lady that made them brought her own fryer to our kitchen and fried them up fresh. The sweet and sour sauce was perfect.

Amazing way to honor a lost loved one.

I do something similar for my son every year. He and I shared the love of BBQ and smoking meats. I'll never be able to make ribs better than he did, but to honor his passing, I smoke ribs on the anniversary of his passing...the last text message i have from him, was him letting me know the ribs he was making had about fifteen minutes, lol.

Unfortunately, no one else shared the love of BBQ/smoking we did, so I'm kind of solo in honoring him in this way, so I think it is really special how you all come together.
