Just bit the bullet and pulled the trigger on the 22.5 Weber Smokey Mountain!!!! Pretty stoked after reading all the killer reviews and drooling over all the Q-view's. I was dumb and bought a Brinkmann, used it twice, modified it and it still was really inconsistent. I can't wait to get into some real smoking with the new rig.

I used mine last weekend it is great you are going to love how easy it is once you get it dialed in!! It holds temp like a champ, enjoy!

Congrats! You will really like the WSM..... just don't be supprised at how big it is... heh-heh. You could put your Brinkman inside of it and still have plenty of room left over. Holler if you have questions and we will be happy to point you in the right direction.

To save you some fuel cost I will say, shorter smokes like chicken, ribs, ect. only fill the ring half way, a full ring will run for a looooooong time and even closing the vents and shutting it down you still loose a lot of charcoal. So only use a full ring if you are doing butts or brisket.

Congrats on the new smoker

Thanks for the welcome everyone!! I've been scoping this forum for a while getting tips here and there. I can't wait to get in the game with a real smoker.

Bearcarver,

I want one of those giant Bear carvings, those are sweet. I'm a huge Chicago Bear fan. It would look great with a jersey in the front room. The old lady would love me for that. lol

Thanks

Jeremy

Built it last night. Its huge!!!! I think I'll smoke my little Brinkmann in it for good measure.

I'm going to do my first smoke on it this weekend. Any ideas or tips? From what I read the WSM's run hot the first couple of smokes. I'm thinking ribs, minion method and possible a 3-2-1.

Thanks

Well if you are like me when I got mine, I figured why let all that rack space go to waist?! So I had 2 racks of spares on top, 1 whole chicken and two chuckies on the bottom, and a couple of brats tucked in here and there for good measure. Both us and the neighbors ate well that night!

I am thinking of getting a WSM. I have a family of 4 and don't usually cook for large groups. Would I be better off with the 18.5 or wait a little longer and get the 22.5?

Thanks.

If I were you I would wait & get the 22.5. Even if you are only cooking for 4 it will give you plenty of room for extras. 2 racks of ribs on the bottom. A fattie, beans, & ABT's on the top. Also you can put full racks of ribs on the 22.5. You have to cut them in half on the 18.5.

Hmmmm, sounds familiar. Size comparison sounds like:

18.5 = MES 30

22.5 = MES 40
