ust fired up the UDS! going to be trying the pterodactyl eggs for the first time and have 2 whole chickens going on there with them.

On goes the birds. Doing some last minute research on the pterodactyl eggs. temperature, how long to smoke and stuff like that.

Boiling them first. From what I've read on here the smoke really doesn't penetrate the shell very well. It looks real cool though!

Eggs are coming off. Got about 20 more minutes till the birds hit 165.

I've tried the eggs several times and I would have to agree that the smoke doesn't penetrate but it does look cool.  I did find the shell was very easy to pull off when cooked 100% in the smoker but I'm not sure if that had anything to do with the smoke or not.  At the very least they don't take up much room so why not?  :)

the eggs were a little rubbery for my liking. I think I boiled them to long. when I pealed them to put on the smoker they were cooked all the way through so I guess the extra heat over cooked them. the taste was great just bad texture. The chicken turned out perfect though! Very juicy. Try try again!

You are correct; rubbery eggs are overcooked eggs.
