That's the normal price around here. I mean it's a steal either way but I've never paid over $30 for 10 pounds. Local meat packing plant sells it right out the door.

That's why I posted this. I read articles that talk about the price of pork bellies and how "it's not that cheap but it's really worth it". And I'm like, it's cheap where I'm from, always has been. Maybe you guys don't have as big of a hog industry and the prices are inflated for transportation or something.

Yeah, they are high around here

Gary

I just placed an order for a box of 3 sides of approx. 8 lbs. +/- each for a price of $2.83/lb.  I thought that was pretty reasonable.  The next few months should see pork prices drop before they level out come summer, according to market.

All I know is the place I buy them has their own farm and they just bring the hogs in to process tem as needed. I just assume it's cheao because of the low overhead. I can literally see a pig and then be holding the fresh belly in my hands about 4 hours later.

That is sweet.

Man I wish I could find bellies that cheap around here

Gary

Just picked up a case of bellies (7 of em in the box) for $1.77 lb at a wholesale meat company. Wish I would have thought that one through a little better. 65 lbs of pork belly is an awful lot. I'm making a smoker for that much bacon with a wardrobe carton from the local moving company and my AMNPS. Still might have to do it in two smokes. After trimming, I ended up with 12 slabs of roughly 5lbs each. The cure calculator found elsewhere on this site was a lifesaver. Wish me luck, pics to follow.

where do you buy pork bellies ? I don't ever recall seeing them in grocery stores or sams club  ...never mind I just found a place that sells them for $2.69 per pound

Maybe I'm talking to the wrong people or just dont know where to go in nashville but I ask the butcher on my side of town and he told me $10lb!!! I had the dumbest look on my face and just walked out. I called whole foods and they told me $9 lb! Been searching the internet for places around and havent found anything under $9 So i just gave up. Anybody in nashville tn know where to go to avoid these high prices?

Yeah I thought he was just joking but no he was serious! I'm thinking its because they make and sell bacon from their store so probably thinking if he says something really high i will just say nope ill just buy your bacon...but i really wanna try it myself so im just going to keep looking

woohoo! got access to a restaurant wholesaler in my area. hopefully bellies will be there and reasonably priced. Can't find decent bellies here at any kind of decent price, which is funny because other more "prime" muscles I can get for cheap at will. same with beef briskets. will be stopping by next week for a couple briskets and a few other things (lamb shanks, etc.)

Around here, there isn't much demand for pork bellies, so they are hard to find and expensive.

Kee-ripes! If he wants $10 lb for belly, how much is he asking for his bacon??? I don't buy store bacon any more, but when I did, I certainly wouldn't pay more than $5 lb.

Is there a Costco near you? Not all of them carry it, but I just bought a couple slabs for $1.99 lb.
