I just finished adding a needle valve to my GOSM, and have been trying to smoke up some fryers. Bad thing is It keeps raining, clearing up, and raining again. My smoker sits outside so no cover. The other bad is I went to to the butcher asked for two split fryers, and happily took them home...
Don't know if this has been posted yet, but this morning I received an email from Amazon.com offering this smoker. Kinda looks familiar to me except for the door handle. Anyway, thought the group might like to hear about it. Sells for $143.97. Forgot to say they call it Smoke Hollow Deluxe Gas...
I have recently read articles about making metal trash can smokers using a hot plate for the heat source, and was wondering what type of metal most trash cans are made of? I thought most were made from tin or some other metal alloy, and was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on this...
These pictures are a little after the fact due to the new printer I ordered would not accept my Smartmedia camera card. FInally hooked up my old card reader, and here it is. The Butts weghed about 71/2 lbs each, and this was my first try at BBs. Started out with ribs. I know a little backwards...
Well Sunday's meal with the family went well. They devoured two 7 1/2 lb. butts leaving half of a small baggie for me to make a couple of enchilada's. They asked me what was for next Sunday, and as I scanned the dinner table of the ten souls I knew then I would go broke with a rib dinner. Soooo...
Well here I go. Heating up the smoker as I write this. Gonna smoke my first butt's for Sunday's dinner with the family. I decided to try two for the first time. Wish me luck.

I brined my bird using deejaydebi's recipe, but cut back a little on the salt because the bird already had a 7% solution. Rubbed the outside with mayonnaise, and a store bought poultry seasoning. I injected the bird with a butter/Garlic marinade. I've had to periodically check the temp. of the...
I know this subject has been brought, but I see where many place the bird in the refrigerator for brining. My question is if I don't have enough room in my refrigerator to put the bird in would it hurt to put the bird in a bucket, and add ice to keep the bird cool while brining outside the...
Here's to cooler weather. Thought I'd surprise the better half with a slab of pork for Sunday's dinner. She even offered to have mashed taters, and cole slaw with it. Course I gotta make it. Wasn't that nice of her? Would have made two slabs, but found I only had one left. Looks like a freezer...
OK guys, and gals I need your expertise. I am expected to bring some ABTS to the office tomorrow, oh yeah I retired June 29 got bored after a month in a half, and went back three days a week. Anyway I digress. I have never done ABTS before, and need to know if I understand what to do. I've...
Now I am confused, and that is not hard . I have read some of the older posts on making ABTs(Atomic Buffalo Turds) where the smoking times have been anywhere from 30 Min's. to 2 hours. What is the overall agreement on smoking times since there is such a big gap in the times given?

Just put on four naked Fatties @ 8:40 a.m.. Used all Sage this time, and only put two chunks of hickory. Hoping to get just enough smoke, but not overpowering. This time I'll smoke'm for three hours, and pull them @ 165 degrees as others have suggested to me. Going camping up to the mountains...
Now that I have tried the ribs, I'm trying a couple of fatties. Made up a rub, and put them on at 4:15 pm.. Had a little trouble with my burner. It noticed how it wouldn't get hotter than 191. Opened the box, and saw the burner was barely putting out a flame. The whole burner was lit, but the...
Got it together. Couldn't wait till I found the camera, so here it is set up and ready to go. Next pics shows her outside waiting patiently for me to fire her up.
Just got home with my new GOSM . The wife is so understanding she even let me put it in the living room until I get it set up. She has already ordered ribs so this will be my first official smoke. Looks like tomorrow will be my maiden voyage.

Got a question. Is there a difference between Cherry wood from a Cherry wood fruit bearing tree, and Cherry wood from A flowering Cherry wood tree in use for smoking? The reason I ask is I have a piece of property that has a Cherry tree on it that does not bear fruit. I want to cut the tree...
Well here are the pics of my work in progress. I am using a commercial freezer or refrigerator (not sure). I have taken pictures of the side, front and back to give an idea of the size. Will take more pics as I go along. Notice the hole on the side for my gas pipe, and the small vent hole. I...
