Hello,

I am looking to do some competitions next year so I just pulled the trigger on a Yoder YS640 with grilling plate option ($1750) total price shipped to my door. OUCH! My question is, do those who compete see a lot of these yoder pellet smokers at competitions or is it mainly offsets? I currently cook on an Oklahoma Joe Highland and WSM, looking to take my hobby to the next level with Yoder.

If you plan on competing, I would highly suggest looking at the 640 with Comp Cart, I wouldn't want to move that beast around without it. I don't do comps yet but looking at getting my feet wet probably next year. Bought a Hunsaker Drum from recommendations of a couple of friends I've met (one of them that was competing with a YS640) because of the love of BBQ that compete and they have both switched over to Drums. I had a WSM before getting the Drum and the Drum is awesome, loving how it cooks (hot and fast) and the results.

I purchased a used Traeger because I wanted to see how Pellet Grills cook before I invested big $$$ just to see if I liked them and will upgrade but I'll use the Drum far more than I will a Pellet Grill and I'll probably buy 2 more Drums when I'm ready to compete.
