Ive been part of this forum for a number of years but took a hiatus as work and life become overwhelming and I put the smoker away for a while. Well, this dry spell has finished and a buddy of mine expressed interest in smoking meat. So I dusted off my old Masterbuilt and we did some venison breakfast sausages. He got hook and I got hooked, again. I decided to give him my old smoker and build one that I have wanted to do for years. I am part of the local fire department and caught wind of an old freezer that didnt work sitting in the corner. So, at the permission of the chief, I acquired a new smoker! So far I have the door off and compressor/shelves out.

It looks like fiberglass insulation is in the freezer. Is that ok to keep in there or should I pull out the tub and replace with Roxul? If so, how do I remove the tub?!?!?! I read on another forum (I read probably 40 build threads before even picking up the freezer) that if i put a torch to the insulation and it just folds up, it should be fine. Any truth to that?

Do I need to remove the tub and change out the insulation?

I found these at Goodwill for $5 combined. I will strip the fabric off the tall one and use it as my venturi smoke generator and use the cap of the smaller one since it creates a tighter seal the the tall one's does.

Do I really need to remove the fiberglass insulation and replace with Roxul? Also, if I do, how do I remove the inner tub?

I would really try to remove the tub just to make sure nothing else flammable under it. I thought mine was good but after start up I had something burning underneath. Once you have it apart go with new insulation.

Yea, i have seen your thread about your insulation burning. I will make sure i remove the old insulation. Any tups on removing the tub? So far i have just been pushing a flat bar between the 2 layers to break apart the glue thats holding them together. Im trying to think of a way to put a hook behind the tub to help put it out but havent thought of anything yet.
