After spending the last month or so reading old posts and lurking in the newer threads, I am pretty sure I am the now the world's leading expert on cooking meat outside. I will however admit that my world covers about a 1/2 acre and I use the term "expert" the same way the weatherman reports the weather; with a high degree of inaccuracy. My Dad always said when you can't stun 'em with brilliance then you might as well baffle them with BS.
Anyway I am not a total newbie but I am far from being a professional. I have solid kitchen skills and am no stranger to a propane tank, but I just lost my 15 year old gas grill and 5 year old electric smoker in the same month thanks to my fascinating mixture of being both stubborn and a tight wad. My better half said to buy one of those pellet grills but I can't find a good one for less than $100 so this is going to cause me some emotional anguish. I will let you know how it turns out. I may just end up with nothing more than a pitchfork and a fire pit.
I look forward to read more about your successes and failures cooking in the outdoors. I may even share some of mine, the successes anyway. Gotta go see if I can find a thread on how to properly season a pitchfork.
