Hey guys. Long story short I wanted a small barrel grill, with cast iron grates. Maybe smoke 2 or 3 things per year, but mainly for grilling. I bought two Patio Pros from Char-Griller and while they seemed heavy duty, the lids would not seal shut, one side left a gap of 1/2" inch. I have seen the rope and aluminum foil tricks, but I found that bothersome to have to do on a brand new grill. I went to Academy and found this little Kingsford for $30 less, and while the metal is much thinner, it makes a great non-warped seal on the lid, and no smoke leaks with my salmon and brats the other night.
I've been reading on this forum about methods for smoking and I want to attempt the Boston Butt this Saturday, my question is this, as dumb as it may seem, but is that exhaust vent too low for a proper smoke? The meat will be on that side per instructions, but on the Patio Pro models, the vent was about 2-3" higher up?
