Why am I suddenly getting this notice?

I never used go get this notice but the past few weeks I've been getting this notice and asked to verify I'm a human.

I am a contributing member to this forum both financially and informatively. I shouldn't have to deal with this every time I refresh my tab in my browser.

Funny you mention it. I haven't been around a lot lately but popping in recently here and there. I noticed this but it just verified and moved on. But this morning, even dropping all my add-ons on Firefox, it stayed locked up in this "verify you are a human" crap.

I had to move to the Edge browser to even login.

I'm not jumping through hoops to be here and I browse with Ad blockers. I refuse to patronize a site that blocks them and forces me to pay money to not have to experience a carnival midway just to view and participate on a site.

I'm fine just not being here if this is what the deal is.

Hannah, there's another thread on this same topic... check it out. By @SmokinAussie I believe.

This is a security measure and has nothing to do with ads. As I type this there are 10 members online and 2107 guests and those numbers don't account for "guests" who've been denied access thru Cloudflare, welcome to the wonderful world of AI bots.

Kind of an odd take for a sure that lets you browse and post for free. The Cloudflare is to stop spam posting / scammers and ads help pay the bills if you aren't subscribed. Hosting the site isn't free after all.

There's a whole bunch of other threads already dealing with this. A simple search would've remedied your issue rather easily and given you the answer as to why this is being done.

For FF clear cookies/history for this site (or any other site where this is an issue) and you're all set. No need to disable add-ons.

I get that every time. I just click on through. The internet isn't as friendly as it used to be. Many sites now have gatekeepers. I'm downright happy about this versus the dreaded capchia.

I get that. But if sites make their pages look and flash like a carnival midway, I'm out. There's ads, then there's ridiculous, and I'm not not specifically saying that about SMF. I think the only time I have seen this site with ads was when I had to enter using a secondary browser I dont have set up with any add-ons.

I have used blockers and add-ons for years. There was a time when a lot of sites employed ad blocker-blockers, and that's fine too, no one is forcing me to look at any web site. It's their site, they can do what they want. I DO wonder what AI is going to do to smaller private web sites because search results are scraped from the web and just gives you the answer...not always correct, but saves time having to click through many sites for that simple answer. Is that what is bieng referred to as "bots"? Or are bots just trying to scrape user info? I'm not clear on that...not an internet/computer tech.

Because I am of the ilk that uses ad blockers, I DO enter amazon through your link in the hopes that it monetizes in some way for you. Does that still work? I almost never buy anything because of an ad. When I need or want something, I proactively go looking for it, not a reaction to an ad on a website...or yard sign, telephone pole, etc.. I DO look at grocery sale flyers though!

This thread just happened to be the one I ended up in and made a comment. Thanks.
I am completely fine with it, I am somewhat surprised that it doesn't remember devices for a period of time once done verifying
I think thats what happened for me this morning. I dropped all my add-ons, was able to verify, enabled all add-ons again and then no problem entering the site and no more verification, at least in the short term was required.

I'm fine with it... I have bigger concerns in life for sure! I just can't believe by checking a box they think I'm human! :emoji_blush: That's not what my wife always calls me lol!
