There used to be three restaurants in the greater Phoenix area called "Bill Johnson's Big Apple". They still have a brand of BBQ sauce that isn't sweet, hot, or any of that but it is just perfect. Now I did like to mix it with a little rum or whiskey once in a while for a different taste but to me it was just fine on it's own. Can't seem to find it out here in SC but looks like I can order some from Albertson's in AZ.. might have to do that..

Sweet Baby Ray's is pretty good and I keep it around most of the time. It's too sweet and too thick so I thin it down with apple cider vinegar.

I just can't find a sauce that strikes a home run for me. I really need to experiment with recipes and come up with something I can make but until then I'm still willing to try out some suggested sauces. Let me know what you like please and I'll look into trying it out.

Thanks.
+1 On thinning SBR. I do SBR + ACV + Franks.

I don't sauce much cue except holiday ribs so I want the best sauce I can get and use Jeff's with a few tweaks. Jeff's is legit restaurant grade IMO. Easy to make too.

For store bought it's a staple of BBQ sauces. Kraft. Their all good IMO.

The wife likes Kraft original, and I like it on burgers and hot dogs. For ribs and chicken I prefer SBRs when I feel like saucing.

I mentioned I use the G Hughes. From the past when sugar wasn’t a consideration I had a few favs too. I remember when Open Pit came out when I was a kid. Loved it for years. In concessions work I did for several years Cattlemen’s and Cattlemen’s Gold were great. Widely used commercially. Lastly I really liked some of the Mississippi brand bbq sauces.

I used to really like KC Masterpiece. It's even the sauce used in the original BRITU ribs recipe.

I'm told that some years ago the recipe was significantly changed and it isn't as good now...but it also seems to have stopped distribution in my part of the country, so I haven't had it in years and can't comment on how it tastes currently.

I see that high fructose corn syrup is the main ingredient in Sweet Baby Ray's. That annoys me. Plus it's way too thick and sweet.

Stubb's used to be near perfection then something changed. It might be that they added too much liquid smoke. Something just isn't right with Stubb's any more.

I'm going to try Open Pit and Bull's Eye again and see what I think.

I'll probably end up making my own.

I buy SBR for the wife. She likes it sweet. I make my own and she will sometimes mix that with SBR's. I used to buy Krafts, but they don't keep the one I like in stock.
My own sauce is sourced from Lee Anne Whippin's "Dixie Chicks" BBQ. She has a mustard based mop sauce too, but I don't mop. I don't do windows either.

I am allergic to HFCS, so I always look for natural ingredients or I mean real sugar. It was G. Hughes for a while but like someone here said, it tastes funny once heated up. So screw my Doc, I won't stop buying a good brown sugar BBQ sauce. Of course, I do make my own with MONK FRUIT and it is really really good. A little more user friendly to diabetics

Rudy’s BBQ sauce.

There’s a gas station/store here called Sheetz that I’m not sure how far they are outside of PA, but I just absolutely love their Dr Pepper BBQ sauce!! It’s not store bought Stubbs or SBR (tried those) and it’s not any of the bbq recipes online (tried those too). The dr pepper flavor is very dominant, it slaps you right in the mouth, and it’s got a nice spicy tingle to it.

I’ve gotten close trying to replicate it by using Dr. Pepper ice cream topper (the syrupy stuff) but it’s not the same.
Thanks, I'll be in Bethlehem area next month and will check it out. Love DP sauces

My two faves aren't available anymore.
Armadillo BBQ Sauce was made by a local Woodinville, WA BBQ joint that went out of business years ago. The sauce sales hung on longer than the restaurant, but it's gone now too.
The other was Beaver Brand Hawaiian BBQ Sauce out of Oregon. They're still around, but apparently don't make this sauce anymore. It was amazing on grilled salmon.

The one I really like now, and I think I bought some on a recommendation from someone here, is Jim Quessenberry's Gold BBQ Sauce. Fantastic mustard-based sauce that gets used all the time. His others aren't bad, either.

Otherwise, I just make another batch of my own, every 6 months or so.

I tried to create my own KC-style sauce, but the trial-and-error method was just taking too long. Then it hit me, there is a company that out-sells practically every condiment/BBQ sauce maker in America...French's. If their sauce wasn't any good, they wouldn't be a top seller, so I grabbed a bottle and never looked back. My ribs never were great, until I slapped on some French's and the compliments started rolling in. I usually slather it on in the last hour and sort of bake it on. My friends and relatives, to a person, say the sauce makes it.

Gone but not forgotten original Texas Best. My local Northeast grocery chain Hannaford has a Taste of Inspirations Chipotle Bacon that is very good. Food Lion in the south might have it as well.

I'll have to check to see if one of our local Hannafords has that.
