What's Underneath?

What do you put under your smoker to help defer the eventual grease/drippings coming out of your smoker? I've got mine on my patio, but it is starting to stain the concrete and draw bugs.

Any ideas?

Go to home depot or any smoking store and they sell mats that will caught the dripping or if your unit drips in one spot only coffee can works wonders.

I have a rubber mud flap from a semi tractor that I place in front of my smoker when I am cooking to catch things that fall and drippings. Cleans easily and stores out of sight when I am not smoking.

What type of smoker? A pizza pan (big one) works great for bullet smokers, and also catches any hot embers that may somehow sneak out.

I've got an upright propane smoker. The grease and other fluids (!) flow down one of the legs and pool on the concrete.

I use a scrap piece (3X3') of wood paneling that I had left over when I build my bar. Works great. Matts are nice, but if you have something else handy, that works too, and much cheaper.

Tin foil works well, its cheap and disposable. Plywood works good also, and yes the grill mats that they sell at lowes works pretty good. I use nothing and just wash the concrete every so often, it doesn't seem to be perminant. besides my wifes buick makes a bigger mess than that!

I've seen small tuna cans used under the legs, but you do have to empty them. If you have a drip pan on the bottom of the smoker like a GOSM big block, try foiling it. That's what I use to catch any drippings, later I just remove it and replace with clean foil.

I also have the GOSM BIG Block. I used to foil it now I just take out and go down to my local car wash. Hang it on the mat clamp and pre soak it with tire cleaner. The grease just peels away and then to wash cycle and then rinse. No spot free though. Now I also had the small GOSM smoker but after a couple of uses I would wipe it down. Never had excessive grease run off. I buy a degreaser from Gordon Foods mix it at a high strength and it cleaned up nicely. I used it for 2 years before I sold it and the racks an inside was still like new. I keep a plastic putty knife nearby and scrap the sides down.

When I had an ECB I put one of those disposable aluminum trays for the bottom of a oven under it.
