OK, I've tried to ignore this post since it started. I give up, and admit it. I cold smoked some chewing gum the last time I smoked some cheese a couple weeks ago. I had been threatening to do it for a while, and it was everything you can imagine....that wasn't a compliment.

Actually it wasn't that bad. Long time ago I used to have that other kind of smoking problem. I used to chew gum when I smoked so I could "bring it back to the office" with me. This reminded me of that a little, which was a nice little memory.

The scientist in me will of course try it again with less smoke, and perhaps something a bit less powerful than big red; Nicorette is starting to look promising.

Reading this thread has made me think of something...if I smoke some regular hosehold items that normally I just microwave or whatever, I'll have to eat them that way forever. And I don't always have time to light up the smoker and smoke everything from gum to hotdogs.

Sorry for the delay to answer. I just saw this.
Raw. I warm them to room temp 1 - 2 hours then into the smoker. I use an electric smoker (smokin tex) I start with a cold smoker so the eggs warm up with the smoker. I have heard that people using a preheated smoker have trouble with them exploding but I have not had that problem. I am debating on using the GOSM gasser.

Smoked a birdnest in my offset once. Loaded up the firebox and started it up to bring it to temp. Opened the lid to put the meat on and 'oh darn'!!!! Never done that again since. Always open the whole smoker to make sure the critters aren't in there.
