I went to the ribfest today. I was not that impressed with the fest. I guess if your a competitor things would be different. They had 4 -6 booths selling Q and a had full of other vendors selling food/rubs/Sauce ect.. It killed 2 hours of my day and that included travel time.
A couple pics of the food vendors, I had the combo from Smoke n dudes and it was good, but nothing special. My wife said my Q was better :)

The Comp people had some Cool banners up and some interesting smokers.. A couple pics..

It was fun, but I don't think I'd go every year. It was HOT, HOT and I was there at 11am.
Picked up some Plow boy rub.. 3 for $20

So I'm trying it out on some Chic thighs.

Well hi there, and at least you went, right? It's nice to know that people think your Q is better! No worries, you got some good learning time and got something to bring back home. It's all good!

I think the double barrel smoker is kind of neat looking...

Thats what I did at the first comp I went to. I bought up a bunch of the different rubs that were on sale. I then went home and tried to duplicate some of the best ones. I came close with a couple so I call the experiment a success.

Anyway it looked like it was a lot of fun.
The thing is that You and you're Wife know what good Q is really like so what you thought of as nothing special the general public finds absolutely wonderful.

Thanks for the qview some awesome smokers there. I too loved the double drum smoker.

Those are cool to go to and I like the fact that You didn't see many big teams it's good to see the small guys get together and have a good smoke off.

I have seen that banner about best this and that before.I think at Dover,Deleware last year.I took one look at food and laughed.

I think alot of people are under assumption that is Best or whatever. We were next to Tuffy of COOL SMOKE at few comps and he has been catering and running his restaurants 20 years-that is fantastic bbq.He also won the entire KCBS a few years ago.He was grand champ of 9-12 comps he entered last year. The top 10% of winning teams are way more accomplished then the rest or say one lucky finish...

Paul Kirk has mentioned ha doesnt compete anymore because he hates going for the WOW factor. The whole one bite deal...
