Okay this is a virtual tour around a local village church.
I know one of the guys involved in 'unusual' money raising schemes for the church and he sent this to me this morning.

They have a teddy bear day with rides for kids teddys. One of the rides is a trebuchet (siege catapult) :-) The teddy is stuffed into a large pop bottle which is hooked to the end of the treb and then fired into a net. They had to remove the sling from the treb as it was overshooting the net and landing in the road every time lol (it was throwing from the tall tree on the right at the front of the church to just past the small green tree on the far left. beyond that bank is the main road through the village)
The church was 275 years old this year. They also made a bunch of full size wooden wheelbarrows from reclaimed wood. 1 for each year, but they ended up making 325 and had to stop as the gang involved were threatened with mass divorce if they didn't.
The above explains why there is a wheelbarrow up by the altar and a teddy bear in a vicars robes by the front door :-)

Anyway thought some of you might be interested in a really good look at a genuine english country church.
This is in barton under needwood - about 15 minutes drive from me.
This is one of the best virtual tours I've seen.
double click the picture to make it full screen and hold your left mouse button down and move the mouse to look around.

Enjoy :-)

Very nice Ardvark!! Your country sure is perty! Also noticed the country wine store across the street from the church. ;)

I wondered what kind of thread this was, but anyone who doesn't look has a screw loose.
THAT IS AWESOME!
Thanks so much for sharing that. Fun to play around with.
Wow.

I have a question, CA:

Was St. James originally designed as a fortification? Usually one sees a tower and crenelations on a fortress.

Just a curious observation.

Cheers!

Wow, beautiful place. I flew over England once and landed at Gatwick. Then I had a bus ride to Heathrow. That was all I saw of England, but I enjoyed the little I saw. Most of the countryside looked groomed and the old houses and pubs were "Old England" as I would have envisioned it. I would love to go back for a real visit - if I could ever afford it.

I gotta say, I think I got vertigo looking at this thing. I forgot to let go of the mouse button when I was panning and I almost spun right out of my seat.

nope that's not fortified - bear in mind it's only 275 years old (that's pretty young for round here lol - we have a church in repton that's over a thousand years old, viking king buried there too) So no major wars on at that time that I'm aware of. My mate lives in a house in the village that's 600 years old. Oak beams that just look like someone uprooted and debranched a tree and built a house round them.
I'm no expert - we'll make that clear lol - but we seem to have 2 basic styles of churches in the area. The ones with square towers like this one and the ones with pointy spires. maybe built by different denominations ? You could probably find out on the net.

yeah dan - I forget to mention that if you spin your mouse it makes you dizzy.

I've seen a few virtual tours before - but I think that's the best done by a long way. Going to try and find out what sort of camera the guy used.
Glad you like it anyway :-)

Oh yeah, the odd bit of pipe on the roof was used for the teddy bear 'bungee jump'. There was also a teddy bear zip-line ride attached to the tower as well.
The 'teddy-bear gang' are quite mad lol

Just found out that if you roll your mouse wheel you can zoom in and out as well. lol You can read all the notice boards and plaques !
