Came out looking pretty darned good Chris, nice work! You going back for more with the old credit card? I like to turn the Vortex wide side up and smoke a tri till it hits a IT of around 115º, then flop it on direct for the sear. RAY
Thanks Civil. I'm going back today to see if they still have them. Chances are good, because not a lot of folks around here even know about TT. Also the family that owns the store is what we call a touch-hole relative of ours. He's the uncle of a niece of ours, and we get along really well.Nice find and plate of TT. We love TT in our house!
Bummer on only being able to score one but maybe if you let them know you will be a steady customer they will keep them in!
Appreciate it Justin. I don't normally post plated shots, but since my wife made my grandma's baked beans. Well you know.Awesome Chris, can’t get much better than TT with them sides… that screams summertime!
And I have to X2 @SmokinEdge comment on the plate shot!
Thanks Jeff, I had it all mapped out in my head, but then I got the better of myself and just kept cutting away.Looks great Chris! The grain really moves all and in those things.
Appreciate it Keith, I think I'm going to have to follow suit, and not rely on my brain especially after a trip or so to the beer-pole.Sure looks great to me Chris! Family hated the first TT that I cooked. I paid no attention to the grain and it was a mighty tough chew. Poligrip would have cried.
I still pull my diagram out and make sure it's cut correctly .
Keith
Thank you kindly BrianGreat Score! They look tasty.
Appreciate it Charles. Just a stone's throw away.Oh heck yeah, Chris!! I'd have to be rolled away from the table.
I didn't know you lived near me...![]()
Thanks Dave, I seem to find them in places where I'm not expecting to find them. It's almost like a game of hide and seek every couple of years or so.Great looking Tri Tip, nice cook!
I guess I am in the club too, I just scored my first TT a couple months ago. A meat market I go to a couple times a year to stock up, which is a little bit of a drive, their weekly sales list came out and had USDA Prime Tri Tip for $5.99lb. Still got a couple in the freeze.
Dave
Appreciate it Ray, Yes I'm going back today to see if they're still there. I would have gone yesterday but I was to busy at home with honey-do's and I had the grill running most of the afternoon.Came out looking pretty darned good Chris, nice work! You going back for more with the old credit card? I like to turn the Vortex wide side up and smoke a tri till it hits a IT of around 115º, then flop it on direct for the sear. RAY
So that was only about $7.00 per pound? I would have whipped out the credit card or drove back for the other 2.
Bummer on only being able to score one but maybe if you let them know you will be a steady customer they will keep them in!
Yep that is about the size of all of them. At least it looks like they should be stocking some of them from now on.So I went back yesterday, and unlucky for me they sold the other two. They did replace them with two more though. One looked like a botched abortion, and the other was a thing of beauty. I picked up the beauty and it's now sitting in my freezer waiting to be called upon in the not so distant future. Oh, by the way it's weighs in at just under 3 lbs. So it's a big'un.
Chris
I certainly hope so. The owner wasn't there when I went back. So I couldn't talk to him or his wife.Yep that is about the size of all of them. At least it looks like they should be stocking some of them from now on.

Thanks Dan, and I'm jealous of that price and availability. That was cooked perfectly.
About the only thing I like about living in CA these days are the T.T. sales.

Appreciate it DaveChris, Nice plate and nice smoke !!!!!
Thanks BED, Yeah I wasn't thinking right when I went out, but in my defense I was only planning on spending 5.00 on the beer, and one nice steak for the wife should have been under 15.00. Little did I realize. That looks delicious! Great job Chris! I gotta say though, your pretty optimistic going meat and beer shopping with just a 20 on ya!![]()
Appreciate it Jim, I promise to better next time. One thing my jaw doesn't need is a workout. It's plenty strong from all my gibber-jabbing.Great thing about a bad cut on a tritip is it gives ya a little more time to chew and savor the beef.
Cant ask for a better looking plate, BB, corn, and TT. Please sir, may I have another!
Jim
Ha thanks Civil, I'm not sure about the feature, but I can guarantee some good eats heading my way.Future featured post in the freeze!!!
Appreciate it Randy. Weber needs to start packaging a beer pole as part of their kettle package. That Vermont steak looks great. Nice job Chris.
Damnit that's the last straw for me, I'm getting a beer pole and soon!
