Okay - I'm pretty sure that simply the mention of the word 'vegetarian' will cause all manner of apoplexy on the forum.

However, I like feeding people - in particular I like feeding my friends. And for good or bad I do have some friends who are veggies. Not vegans thank the stars - vegans really are the scrapings on the sole of humanity's boot (Is that a bit harsh ? Nah, lol).

But I do know some decent veggies. Bless 'em, most of them also eat fish (I've stopped trying to explain that fish are meat without legs - 'cos lets face it, if they stopped eating fish I'd really be buggered for food to cook).

So I do a number of dishes for my veggie friends. I've developed quite possibly the best veggie sausage recipe in the world (Hey I'm modest, it's probably the best in the universe lol) I call it Vege-meat.
You can basically use it for everything you can use sausage meat for and with minor modification just about anything they use soya and quorn for as well. And yes it tstes and cooks better than the majority of commercial non-veggie sausage meat.
And yes I am contemplating smoking the world's first vegetarian fattie (unless you know otherwise of course).

So I was wondering if:
1) anyone else had veggie friends.
2) if so what sort of thing do you grill/bbq/smoke for them ?

Hey CA my daughter is a vegetarian...I've done a quick smoke on her veggie burgers with my spritz and she said that was the best she ever had!! Oh I did put them on aluminum foil so it doesn't touch my meat covered racks!

My ex became a vegitarian a few years before we split up. I had nothing agianst her becoming one, and I'd grill portobella mushrooms and lots of vegatables for her. While I liked a lot of the veggies I cooked as a side to my meat dish, I got tired of the preaching about how bad meat was for me. When she tried to switch my good cow milk to Soy milk, that's when I blew a gasket.

My sister-in-law and her two young boys are vegeterian. Fortunately her husband is a full fledged mid-west raised carnivore. I've tried to convince her to start eating meat with strong logic like "if god didn't want us to eat animals, why did he make them out of meat?" but it doesnt work for some reason. :) When I am grilling or smoking I tell them to bring whatever they want me to throw on the grill. How the heck do I know which brand of nasty soy hot dog tatstes best? The only concession I make in what the rest of us are eating is that if I am smoking some mushrooms, onions, etc ina addition to meat, I'll put the veggies above the meat so that fat doesnt drip on them.

My daughter is a vegetarian and while she has strong feelings on whether or not she should eat meat, she doesn't preach about it to others. Nor do I think people who do eat meat choose to preach to vegetarians about their choices.

There are many things that can be smoked. There are all manner of soy burgers and sausages. Meatloaves made out of textured vegetable protein which has the look and consistency of ground beef. Vegetables like portabella mushrooms, potatoes, butternut squash. Cheeses. Even extra firm tofu can be smoked and added to other dishes.

Meat isn't the only thing that benefits from time in the smoker.

My veggie brother in-law and is girl are coming tonight for a visit.

We are making kabobs, and for a little meat like bit on the kabob, we got some SEITAN it is a wheat glutin ,that kind of has the texture of bad bbq.

It is pretty tasty though and is easy to cook, since it is ready to eat out of the packet. But I like to get a little crust on it over the grill.
cheers.
