This may be a stupid question, but has anyone tried using charcoal and wood chunks in a Master Forge Dual Door smoker?  Just looking for alternatives to help maintain heat within the smoker without cranking up the propane.  I don't see any dangers in it, but then again I'm new to all of this, so I could be overlooking something.

Thanks in advance for the help.

No reason why you coundnt just as long as the heat from the charcoal or wood chunks dont burn through the wood chip pan? On my MF dual door i installed a regulator with flow adjustment knob and high temp braided gasket around the doors and bottom burner assembly.

Rick, What kind of gasket did you use?

Is this one safe to be used inside a propane smoker?:

The wood chip box comes with a grate that you can put coals on. The grate keeps the coals elevated so air can get underneath them to help them burn. I have not used coals in mine. I have a charcoal bullet smoker that I quit using as I hated tending to it ALL THE TIME! It took the fun out of smoking. Maybe you can add coal and chips (or chunks) at the same time for a more charcoal like flavor when using propane. Idk, never tried it.
