I have been a loyal WSM owner for many years. This last year picked up a 30 inch masterbuilt for $60 on clearance. With use of pellet tube starting to like this thing. One of the Walmarts has the Masterbuilt Digital Electric Smoker 140S - 40" for $200. I need help getting talked into buying!

I have one, and that’s a very fair price. If you buy it, buy the leg kit from Home Depot (it should come with it in my opinion). I prefer it with a mailbox mod of sorts, external smoke piped in works far better than using the amnps in the box. The element gets substantially hotter than the mes30 and it easily caught my pellet tray on fire.
I have no real complaints about this unit so far, 4th masterbuilt, best one yet 1 year in.

Picked up the 40 today. Guess $200 still not a bad price. Lot bigger than my 30. Need to have a sale one of these days. Weber kettle, Weber smokey Joe, 2 Weber WSM, 2 Barrel, 2 Weber gas, and now 2 electric smoker and I live alone. I might have a problem! Going to try A-Maze-N on bottom left to see if will burn without starting on fire from burner. I will get around to mailbox some day. This weekend when opened door to take turkey out the tube started on fire. Good reason for mod.

I like a MES 40 I got for hauling it way (Lucky strike for me!) Dead controller.
I modified it to run on my PID, and "mailbox Mod" to use it for cold smoking because it has much more room to hang bacon slabs in it. Or anything in it.
And I think the bigger area helps the smoke dwell longer.
Enjoy your New MES 40!
