Wow great pics and thanks for sharing. Brought back my days of tromping around in Bamberg. After closing down a guest haus we always ended up at the chicken house for half a chicken and fries. My best memories besides the food was the time spent with the locals. They sure know thw right spots to hit.

Yodelhawk, thank you very much for posting such an outstanding chronicle of the food and beer during your visit to Germany. What a beautiful tour through the plates of your subsistence; a dance through the stuffed roasted perfections that Germany has to offer, and of course, no small word to their beers. Wow...heavenly draughts you drank, but the best looking one was that quiet dark one to the right of your table during your "monastic moment" at Andechs. Excellent!

Love the idea of a "mass" of bier and a huge pretzel! Wow.

Major points for your post, and thank you for sharing good times, bud!

Yodelhawk, what a great gastromic tour of Germany. Glad you were able to set your Dad on the right road for great ribs. Now all you need to do is figure out how to get a smoker to him. On the other hand, you could send him plans for an Ugly Drum Smoker; the materials he should be able to get locally.

Very nice, boy they sure know how to eat.

thanks for the wonderful tour! as someone who is of mostly-german ancestry and was also born in germany, i am impressed and grateful to learn a little of the daily life of my home country that i never knew.

And Drink!

Great post...thanks for sharing your adventure and pics too. It cracks me up that you turned to get the camera, and half of the sausage was gone when you turned back...I laughed out loud on that one!

Man you were so luck to get to go to Germany. We were there to but only for a week and weret there to see our grand kids (new grand son) and we didn't get to go out much because of the weather and we had 3 kids but we did get out to Heilburg, Mainz, and humberg or something like that. It was very cool and the food was really really good when we got out into the towns. On the base it is very Americansized. But we will be going back soon enough. Thanks for the info and the pictures. the next time they will have been there longer the family had only been there for 2 months and didn't have much time to explore. But the next time we will have time and they will know the area better too. Get job on showing the finer parts od the food and drink.

Dude - that stuff looks AMAZING! All I gotta ask is - how come I see all these people wearing short sleeved shirts? Isn't it cold out there now?
I thought they had a temperate climate as the midwest US here?

Thanks for the memory trip. Was stationed in Germany halfway between Sembach and Weisbaden, with the USAF, way back in the 70's. 3 great years eating our hearts out. Octoberfest has got to be experienced to believe. Noticed you had alot of pomme friets. Did you notice all the brat stands scattered along the highways and biways? Now there was some good eats. Brat und sauerkraut und ein grosse bier..... I can't drink American Beer anymore, German Beer ruined me. American beer is, well, lets just say it's very weak and thin, in comparison to regional beers in Germany. They do love their pork. How do you like the way the Germans drive? It took me several weeks to get to use to it.

Thanks for reviving some wonderful memories.

~Dave
