Hello. For Christmas I’m thinking about getting my Dad a Traeger. My concern is he’s more of a griller than a smoker. He bbqs a lot of chicken, steak and burgers. Would he traeger still serve the purpose?
In short, yes. But so would a gas grill. In my opinion a kettle is a better choice for flavor (using charcoal) but is not as convenient as gas or pellet grill. tradeoffs....
I use my pellet grill for grilling all the time. Haven't touched my Weber gasser for over a year. I would recommend getting him GrillGrates along with the Traeger.
We grill on our Traeger all the time. It does an excellent job! It has all but retired all the other grills. I never would have dreamt I'd park my old Weber kettle charcoal grill, but I pretty much have since getting the wife the Traeger she wanted.
It hasn't replaced the dedicated smoker(s) yet though. It does a fairly good job smoking, but for the real 'finesse' smoking I still think a dedicated smoker works better, at least on delicate stuff. Big stuff, the Traeger does fine.
