Honestly, leads me to believe ya have a bad unit ! My 732 has worked flawless since gettin it.... It should not be that difficult to use ! May contact who ya bought it from for a possible exchange or somethin ! Just my 2 cents !

It looks like your probes aren't fully seated. It takes a solid push to get mine to seat, much more force than I would think is needed. As for your problems with the WSM, are you sure you got everything right way up and all? I don't know and I don't mean to insult your intelligence in the least. I just know that when I'm having problems with something not working, I ALWAYS try to rule out any possible mistakes on my part first before I start calling customer service etc...  In most cases I end up with a sheepish expression on my face when I realize I've rushed through the assembly process, ignored the directions and gotten something backwards or upside down. With the WSM, I know there is "some assembly required", so just make sure everything is where it's supposed to be.

I hope it all works out for you!! The Maverick and the WSM together are a wonderful combination used by a ton of folks to make some seriously awesome BBQ, so have faith!

I tried pressing them in further and nothing. The power button won't turn the transmitter off, the receiver isn't showing temps, the settings don't work like they're supposed to, etc. figure at this point I probably got a defective unit.

Well I think they're pretty good about replacements, sounds like it's time to give them a call.

Here's a video on the assembly of the WSM, just to make sure.

Not mine, but the guy runs the virtual Weber bullet site, so it should be accurate.

Got the smoker lined out, it cooked beautifully last night for me. I'm looking into a way to deal the lid some, as it leaks some smoke and heat out of the bottom of the lid, nothing major. Now to get my maverick replaced.

Glad to hear it's working out! The leaks will subside or stop altogether once it gets a buildup of soot and grease (known affectionately as gunk or "seasoning") on the inside. Temps will stabilize more as well. Good luck with the Maverick.

Appreciate it. Since my maverick won't work I had to go off the lid thermometer. I wanted to cook around 240 so I kept the lid at 280, since I read that the lid temp is around 40 degrees hotter then the cooking surface, and it turned out great. Sunday I'm gonna try Jeff's recipe for rum injected double smoked ham.

that is exactly what my unit looked like when i shut it off and turned it back on. i pulled the batteries and put them back in. i turned on the transmitter first then the reciever. let me play with mine stealth and see if i can help ya out i have the exact same unit.

Man ultra I would appreciate it if you can get me lined out, I'd hate to go through the hassle of exchanging it.

well stealth i just messed with mine a little bit and with no probes plugged in i get 888 on the display for a second and the it will show 3 lines as soon as i plug in my probes it shows the temp on the main unit. then i turned on the remote unit and it showed lines where the temp should have been. i then hit the resync button and my temps popped up on the remote unit. if your main unit is showing 888 id say you have a problem with the main unit.

That's what I'm thinking, got a bad transmitter. I bought it from BBQ islands website. Should I contact them or maverick?

id contact where you bought it and see what they say, they might tell you to call maverick directly.

ya i hear ya stealth, id just get another temp probe for your cooker until you get a new unit so you can at least have 2 probes to bounce against each other.

I grabbed an el cheapo meat thermo from wal mart to hold me over, not the best but pretty accurate.

The BBQ island and maverick customer service is something I've never seen before. Total class all the way around. The BBQ rep called maverick for me, determined my transmitter was faulty for me. Thy had maverick set another maverick aside for me and provided me with a fedex shipping label. When FedEx picks mine up tomorrow, maverick will immediately send the new one out with 2 day shipping. Needless to say any online supplies I buy will be from BBQ island.

outstanding always nice to hear a success story. i love my maverick and now im revamping my firebox to incorporate a fan to help regulate my temp with the maverick.
