I'm a fan of the 39As myself. What's the story on the 2nd one from the left? Not sure I've ever seen one with wood that nice.
No, the Special was put together using a refinished USGI receiver and parts along with a new Cririterion 308 bbl and IIRC a Boyds walnut stock. I'll get around to swapping out the clunky stock one of these days. They don't build them anymore, as far as I know, I think due to a higher price point compared to most other CMP Garands. They've come out with the "Expert Grade" 308 which uses the same receivers and parts but unfinished along with a new bbl and stock. The Specials run both 308 commercial and 7.62 equally well but the Expert needs the gas port enlarged to run 7.62. Its a Springfield receiver dated Aug of '42.
Thats an '82 39A I had that I swapped the wood out for a Century Limited stock and fore end I found on Numrich Arms site. I think I paid $90 for both pieces. They sold out yrs ago and I've seen a few nicer than mine and a lot more not as nice. It was just the luck of the draw. One of these days I'll get a better pic, that one doesn't do it justice. The stock fit right on but the fore end took more than a few hrs of fitting. I put a Skinner black and Gold peep on to complete the bling effect. :)
The other two are a '55 Mounty ( my birth year) and a '46 model with incorrect wood from the
'82. Little better pic below.

I noticed that sight too. Didn't know if it was a high grade special edition that I had not seen or a custom gun. Nice job putting that together. Beautiful rifle.

That's not bad! Use it wisely. What little I've seen available in the last couple of years was $3-$4 per round.

Got it. Now I'm looking for a micro red dot for it. Stripped it yesterday. Interesting thing was the sling/stabilizer. The lower picatinny is uncomfortable in my hand so I'm considering adding fold down forearm.
