New to smoking and looking to get some insight to the various ways and woods used. I just picked up a propane grill that has plenty of room and want to smoke in it. I have looked at various smoke boxes and foil bombs wondering if im going the right way looking at the cast iron box or should i just start with foil bombs?

Heres what you want, everyone on here has one, either the tray or the tube one but they say you gotta go with the "amazin" one... i haven't pulled the trigger yet to buying one but what i hear about them is good!

Welcome aboard and smokinq has you covered. I believe the tube is recommended for gas grills.

^^^Exactly!!^^^
Tray for small Smokers.(AMNPS)

Tube for bigger smokers (AMNTS), Gas grills & smokers, and High altitudes.

Welcome from KC! Get the Expanding tube, that way you can adjust it to how long of smoke you want.

maybe i should have added this the first time do you guys use chips or pellets. I have heard mixed opinions on both years ago i used actual chips but you know how technology is supposed to "improve" things lol

If you use the AMNTS(tube, recommended for gas grills) or AMNPS(Tray) then you would use pellets only. It will give you a long, steady, and consistent smoke. If you use the foil bomb method then your using chips, and they won't last nearly as long or be as consistent. Also with the foil bomb the foil has to be placed over direct heat.

Sorry Chris but they do use dust in the trays as well.

Warren

Dust or pellets work in the tray. Pellets only for the tube. Dust will give you a cleaner liter smoke. It's great for cheese and fish. I'm not sure if the tray will work in a gas grill as I don't believe it's recommended for grill use. There may not be enough oxygen to burn correctly.

Edit: Sorry HalfSmoked I misread your comment. You are correct and I left that out of my original post. I originally thought you asked if dust works in the tray. I also thought you were the original poster. Man two edits - I'm getting to old.
