Twice today while smoking a couple of pork rib racks I have had to reset the temp to 235F.

One time when I noticed the temp was at 265F and the other 295F. On the last one I ran an errand for about 45 minutes. Never do that again.

So I opened the door for a couple minutes until it cooled down to 240F.

I am just at the end of my 3 hour smoke and the temp is now sitting at 232F after resetting to 235F.

What the heck is going on here?

MES 30 digital bluetooth.

That’s a pretty high temp fluctuations for an MES. Are you using another probe for the chamber such as a Maveric? Is that how you’re getting your readings?

No, just observing the temp via the control panel and the bluetooth app. It has never done this before.

I noticed when resetting the temp that as soon as I hit the temp button it shows 899F. Seems like that is where is trying to head. Don't know if it is the control panel of the thermostat not responding to the setting.

Looks like I am going to have to contact Masterbuilt.

Yes sir. You need to call them. I think a new control head is in your future.
Have the model and serial number from the sticker on the back before you give them a ring. B

Well this isn't going well. Not sure I am going to be able complete my smoke without taking the ribs into kitchen and throw them in the oven.

Dug out my Weber iGrill and it reports 271F while the MB reports 245F. The meat probes started out reporting 177F when I plugged them in. Now they are showing 165F and 168F. Going the wrong direction. Still have to gain another 30F on the meat. I am going to starve. :(

There is no shame in tossing the meat in the oven brother. Every dude on this forum has had to do it. Call MB in the morning. Bet they take good care of you. They have always taken care of me. B

Well can't beat the customer service at Masterbuilt. I am out of warranty and they are going to send me the control panel at no charge, since this is my first time ever needing a part. Future part replacements will be at cost. Whoopee!! :)

I've been hearing more regarding however you start the smoker by bluetooth/remote, then use only that for the entire smoke or if you start with the smoker controller manually, dont use use BT/remote. If you haven't had this problem in the past then what they send you should solve everything. I've heard numerous concerns regarding the high 899 or so display problems so it's not uncommon

Got my replacement control panel installed.
Did a 2 hour temp test.
Set for 225F Held at around 230F per the MES thermometer.
Also ran the iGrill2 at the same time. It reported 247F. Was always within 17 degrees.
So now the question which one to believe? Probably the iGrill2.
That raises the next question. Do I set my temp 22 degrees lower so the iGrill2 will report 225F?

Make sure you iGrill registers proper temp for freezing as well as the proper temp for boiling water.

I did the freeze/boil test and the iGrill2 passed.

Doing a pork roast right now and i moved the iGrill2 probe towards the top of the oven and now the smoker and the iGrill2 are within a couple degrees of each other. When doing the test I probably had the probe to close to the element.

I think I am good.
