Looks good to me. It will thin out with some time. How long into the cook was this?
 
Is this what we are looking for, or thinner? First time attempting to smoke anything.
Depends on the length of the smoke. That would be good for about a half hour or so but I would thin it down after that. Just my preference.

In this pic of my smoker the smoke is telling me I need to poke the fire and get a bit of flame soon.

 
Usually when they first start up the smoke is a little heavy. As yours is.

After 30-45 minutes they settle in & the smoke thins out.

At least that has been my experience.

Ok thanks...It was actually a lot heavier 5 minutes prior to taking this picture. Closed the intake dampner and the smoke thinned to this.
