Morning folks.
Yesterday I needed to get something made for lunch at work for today. And, I had an urge for something spicy.
Thawed out 2 small chicken breasts and cut into strip. And started cooking them in a frying pan.
Added some of the Wegman's "TOM TOM" sauce. Which is, in their words. A spicy Szechuan chili garlic sauce.
And drained a can of straw mushrooms and added it to it.

Let it cook long enough for the mushrooms to render down a touch and cook off some of the moisture.

Added salt and pepper and tasted. Spicy? Not really. So I added a couple tsp of chili garlic paste. And a few dashes of dark soy sauce to loosen up the paste. That woke her up!
This will give me 2 lunches when I add rice on the side. After doctoring it up a bit. This came out really tasty.

Nice , lunch for a couple days . Good looking pan of spicy chicken Steve

Love spicy Chinese food. Was just reading my big Chinese cook book last night and was reading couple spicy meals to make. It does the 4 regions of China, and the Szechuan area has a couple real good ones. There is a Szechuan Hot Chilli Pork That sounds real good

Nice work Steve!

After wife gets over her Covid nose blind a little stir fry sounds good
I am amazed the difference in using straw mushrooms versus plain button

Looks great Steve!

Yes Sam we like a lot of Asian foods here. We make our own egg rolls , it is a flavor we like and common for this neck of the woods. When we travel we eat out a lot and most places just make Spring rolls. ours is potato and hamburger based.
I have had that book from the 80's ( from my first wife, don't tell my second wife ) :emoji_sunglasses:

I also have lots of other books , that just happened to be the one I was reading last night than saw Steve H Steve H 's post this morning.

That's a good price on the book and shipping

I love a good Hot and Sour soup also, was in Chinatown in Vancouver few years back and my friend and I ordered War soup. It had everything in it great flavor and cleaned out the sinuses . Wish I could find it and try to make

We used to make something similar all the time and then, over time, it sort of fell out of rotation. I plan to show my better half your pics and I am sure it will come right back. Great looking meal!

My interest in chinese is mostly due to necessity. My favorite restaurant closed and the others are what I call "food court" quality. :emoji_laughing:

I won't say I collect cookbooks but I sorta do. Love me some hot and sour too but never heard of War soup. Sounds like a winner.

Won't wander too far OT but will give you guys my hack for quick authentic chinese flavor so far: chicken powder. Bring on the chinese/stir fry threads!

Always envious of those who have a Weggies nearby. Sure miss them, being out here in Hoosier land.

Man, that looks excellent! It’s been a while since I’ve done a stir fry, you got me motivated!

Thank you! As much as I gripe about Wegmans and their prices. I do like them.

I know what you mean about bringing out the heat

We have a Meat making company here in town that's been around forever. " Brothers " They have world famous meats ( or that's what they advertise )
When I first started as a pizza cook back in High school they were well know for their Pepperoni, and other blends of meats
Their pepperoni is fantastic, they have 3 flavors, Mild - not bad, Hot - which I love and that's what I always get nice and hot, than TNT- it is stupid hot and way too hot and you can't taste the pepperoni.

Sorry what i was getting at is with the hot pepperoni it is real nice and quite hot But nuke it for a bit BAM super hot and still taste the pepperoni
If you go into any bars around here you can ask for deep fried pepperoni and Lynch's Honey mustard for dipping, now that's a meal

So nuking and deep frying really brings out the extra heat
wow I'm long winded sometimes , I even annoy myself ' lol
