I am thinking of trying sausage making. I have a Kenwood meat grinder, mixer etc. We used it for years grinding our hamburger from the sides of cow we butchered.
I would like to buy some stuffer horns for it but I have no idea what the size of the horns are. What does #8, #12, ect mean in measurements? I need the actual diameter of the mount so I can get the correct size to fit my grinder.
I did a search for it but I didn't see any info. I probably did't use the correct terms. If there is a link, could someone point me in the correct direction?

Dee don't get horns for the grinder, you will be disappointed with the out come of the sausage.I used a Jerky Cannon for years because I only make 5 pounds at a time.
The grinder will make a mushy paste as it heats up when stuffing. There are a few post on that check it out.
Good Luck Richie

Dee I have been using a grinder to stuff sausage for many years, the secret is keep the meat really cold, and put auger and grinder body in freezer to get it real cold you will have no problems with meat getting mushy, the secret keep meat cold as possible I also when stuffing sausage I remove the grinder plate and install a plate that has two kidney shaped cut outs that are enlarged holes used for stuffing sausage also go to sausage maker .com for stuffing tubes and casings and they will have the stuffing plate.

If you really want to make sausages, get a stuffer. A 5# stuffer can be gotten for around $100 and is much easier than trying to make do with a grinder attachment. You'll probably spend the same $ buying what you need to use the grinder...

I always called it the stuffing plate.

Thanks crazzycajun. This is exactly the info I was looking for.
Thanks to everyone else as well! Your advise is valuable information for my future projects. Richie and smokeymose, I will be getting a stuffer if I can get my recipes right. At the moment, I will try the grinder and use Gwanger's method because I have it already. If things get messed up, that may give me the incentive to get a stuffer.
