I have a Chard 5lb verticle stuffer. I found that the plastic piston has warped and won't hold a seal from using the snack stick size tube a couple times. Have to crank on it pretty hard to get the meat to go thru that one.

I have sent emails out to Chard twice with no reply. Might be calling them next.

I haven't measured the diameter of the piston yet, but I wonder if different brand pistons would be the same size? I would rather find a metal piston so I don't have to worry about it again.

Has anyone else been through this problem and what did you end up doing?

I would have a machinist make you one, out of what ever material you may choose. Uhmw, derlin, stainless, aluminum, whatever you want.

I can't help you on finding your parts...

But I will chime in about how hard you say it is to crank... Are you giving a final mix before filling the stuffer ?? Are you letting you mince sit out and come to room temp first ?? Is the mince really stiff when you load the stuffer ?? If thats the case add a little water...

I would grind twice with a smaller plate the second time. Plenty of water. I had made breakfast sausage links with Blueberry. I think the blueberries are what is causing hard cranking. They definitely are softer by the time I stuff, but they are not much smaller than the stuffing tube itself.

Doing some research on what size yours is compared to sizes of other brands would be the simplest way. Just a little time is all.
