Looks delicious Bear! I like all kinds of all beef hotdogs! Those French bread pizza are looking good too!
Deep fried with Deep fried potatoes on Pizza Loaf you say? We used to get that down at Seaside in the Summer, and the best ones in Iselin in the 70's + 80's at a place called JoJo's. Now I want that, but the only way would be make it ourselves. Can't get the bread though. LOL. Excellent memories.in Jersey dirty water dogs mainly Sabrett's with hot onions are what you get here, or deep fried with deep fried potatoes on a pizza loaf. But I enjoy a smoked sabrett beef dog natural casing they hit the spot. I usually toss a few in when smoking other stuff. But has to be all beef not that other mixed meat dogs
I got a pack of the all beef Sabrett's at the same place that sells the pork roll .Jersey dirty water dogs mainly Sabrett's
we still get then in Jersey, the bread it what's hard to find, the bakeries usually sell out of it early, I think its the oil that holds a lot of flavorDeep fried with Deep fried potatoes on Pizza Loaf you say? they are still around and as good as ever But in Newark there's another place called Dickee Dee's they are just as good been awhile since I have been there learned how to make my own, even make my hot onions myself need that for the dogs. LOLI almost forgot the most famous of all, Jimmy Buff's in North Jersey. Not sure if still there, but they had 2-3 locations back in the day. They invented it I think way back when.
Calandra's is still around, Dickee Dee's is a block away from Calandra's on Bloomfield Ave. and yes homemade one's nice and spicy.NIce. Glad to hear they are still around. Haven't heard of Dickee Dog's. The bread is always the issue, LOL. My in laws used to get the best bread in Newark at Calandra's Bakery. Not sure if they are still around. We used to get their fresh Breadsw at Shop Rite daily. True on the onions, you mean the cooked ones in red sauce, right? Now I'm really getting hungry.
So true, my friend gave he his recipe he used on his truck Ed's Hot Dog's on Bloomfield Ave. years ago, how he made them. I long lost it but I do it by sight now lol but Spanish or sweet onions only, salt, pepper, garlic, basil, crushed pepper flakes, in water let cook for about 2-3 hours on low simmer till onions are translucent.Excellent. Now I gotta call my Mother in Law and be nice to her so she'll make me some of those onions, lol. We've made them in the past, but no where near as good as she makes them. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do right?
sorry forgot about the juice from the hot cherry pepper jar. I make it often and don't think what I put in it, just grab the stuff I use, and let it rip. And don't use tomato sauce or any peppers besides the flakes. But once you get it right they are amazing on dogs. That sounds close, but I think she also has a small amount of tomato sauce and vinegar peppers in it too. I'll check once I build up the tolerance to make the call.
That's what I meant, cherry peppers not vinegar, they're pretty much the same I think. And that's what gives it the reddish color, the cherry pepper sauce, right? I don't know why I thought tomato sauce. And the red pepper flakes instead of the cherry peppers I'll do too. MIL uses the actual peppers not the flakes.sorry forgot about the juice from the hot cherry pepper jar. I make it often and don't think what I put in it, just grab the stuff I use, and let it rip. Looking tasty!
I’ve gotten into a habit of keeping a supply of German sausage and all beef dogs from our local meat market. Anytime I’m smoking, especially with hickory, I toss a couple on to help pass the time. What a treat!
Looks delicious Bear! I love hot dogs. Oscar Meyers are good. Wife ony likes Hebrew National Bun Length or Sabrett's natural casing. The Sabrett's we cannot get here. I like most All Beef Hot Dogs in the 1/4 lb size like you have there. To me that's a perfect size with unlimited potential. Thanks for sharing.
