It needs to be a couple inches up in the smoker and the exposed charcoal on top needs to be up away from the galvanized steel of the basket. So yeah. That sound good. Mine is about flush but could go a tad higher .
So how will you add your wood chunks in there now? Like every couple hours you have to lift off the smoker if you seal the door up.

Guess you could bury a couple chunks down into unlit coals if your using the minion top down burn.
 
Well, it was dark-thirty when hubs finally made it home, so I'll just run to HD in the morning and grab 'em. I'll put foil around the base where the body meets the tub so I can get the CB done, so I'll apply the gasket there Saturday.
